Isis Oasis
A History of the Land

|
| The Great Tree |
The Pomo and the Great Tree
The grounds that we have come to know today as Isis Oasis have a unique and rich history. This parcel of land was once
a Pomo Indian ceremonial ground. The Great Tree is the location of FOI ordinations into the priesthood currently conducted
during the Convocation. This Tree is held sacred by the local Native Americans.
In 1997, a Cherokee shaman named Robert Standing Bear attended the Convocation specifically he said, to witness the ordinations.
He knelt on one knee in front of Linda Iles, before the ordination ceremony and sang a song to draw down the Eagle Spirit
and called her his sister. Linda hadn’t spoken to anyone of her Cherokee ancestry at Isis Oasis, but Robert knew it
without being told!
Interestingly, several priestesses who are active in the FOI/TOI have Native American ancestry. One of our FOI/TOI priestesses,
Diveena, has Pomo ancestry and would often include Native teachings in her priestess work at Isis Oasis. Catherine Farah and
Linda Iles gave a presentation titled “Isis Comes to Turtle Island” at the Convocation in 2001 to honor their
Native American ancestry, no matter how small a percentage, for it is still part of one’s family’s heritage. We
also honored the sacredness of the grounds of Isis Oasis to Native Americans specifically that year. Elda Lantz has Native
American ancestry, also Cherokee and has brought her wonderful knowledge of Native American spirituality to Convocation proceedings
at Isis Oasis. And deTraci Regula, who continues to contribute to the Isian community through her research and wonderful books,
has Mohawk ancestry. Another offering of indigenous people was brought all the way from New Zealand, a traditional call by
the Maori was conducted by Moyae Kennedy and Eva Gambos.
The Bahai
In the early part of the twentieth century, the Bahai purchased the property and began setting up buildings which still
exist and are used today. A Bahai School whose principle philosophy was global unity was formed and began its first public
summer session in 1927.

| The ancients equated the eyes of peacock feathers with stars |
According to Bahai archives the school in Geyserville opened on August 1, which happens to be very interesting because
the star Sirius can first be seen rising just before dawn 5:00 am standard time and 6:00 am daylight savings time on or around
August first. This rising just before dawn is called the helical rising of Sirius, the Star called the Soul or Home of Isis,
which marked the beginning of the New Year for the ancient Egyptians!
The Geyserville Bahai Summer School was the first acquired Bahai piece of property in California. A prominent member of
the Bahai, Leroy Ioas, served as the first Chairman of the “Assembly in the West” in Chicago, Illinois. He was
one of the pillars of the Bahai Faith in North America at this time and later served as a teacher at the Geyserville Bahai
School for many years. He frequently advised all Bahai members in North America to attend the sessions and meetings at the
Geyserville Bahai Summer School to deepen knowledge of the Bahai Teachings.
Firuz Kazemzadeh was another prominent member of the Bahai movement who taught at the Geyserville Summer Bahai School.
He was born in 1924 in Moscow, Russia, where his father served for many years on the staff of the Iranian Embassy. After completing
his primary and secondary education in Moscow, he came to the United States in 1944 and entered Stanford University, graduating
Phi Beta Kappa, in 1946 and obtaining an MA in 1947. In 1950 Kazemzadeh received a Ph.D. in Russian history from Harvard and
was appointed Professor Emeritus of History at Yale.
Kazemzadeh was a member of the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom to which he was appointed for
a two year term in 1998 by President Clinton and reappointed for another two year term by Senator Daschle. He has spoken both
in Congress and the UN on matters pertaining to religious freedom and atrocities committed against not only the Bahai but
to others throughout the world.
After the Bahai
The Bahai kept the land for seventy years, but when the 101 freeway cut through their land, they lost interest and left
it. The 8.5 acres later bought by Loreon was what was left of the original tract after the freeway was put in. The property
was put up for auction through the State of California, and bought by an individual named Alex Muir, a descendant of
John Muir.
In the 1970’s the property was leased for a short time by Dennis Peron. He called the grounds “Islandia”
after a novel by Aldous Huxley. Islandia existed on the grounds we know today as Isis Oasis for a very brief period - approximately
four months. Dennis Peron had originally envisioned Islandia becoming a modern day Garden of Eden a “new age free space
open to all”. Because of legal problems, Dennis Peron gave the property back to the original owner, who decided to put
the land up for sale.
Isis Oasis
It was not long after this that Loreon decided to look for a place to move outside of the city of San Francisco. She writes:
“I found a very intriguing ad and determined to go see it. The ad stated that there was a turn of the century farmhouse,
a church, a commercial kitchen, and a twenty-two room lodge to be had in the wine country of Sonoma County. At the time I
was reading Dion Fortune’s “Moon Magic“, and its heroine, Morgan Le Fay, finds a church building which she
makes into her home. She performs rituals to Isis within it. I was fascinated …”

She visited the property a few times, and thought about it a great deal. Purchasing this property was a big decision, one
that would prove to be life altering. After some time, she agreed to buy the property. It was after she moved onto the grounds
of Isis Oasis that the Goddess really began to manifest strongly. Loreon felt a presence on the land, felt it everywhere.
She identified it as Goddess. She writes: “… there was something missing from the many religions the Bahai
had studied previously on this land: the Goddess! I believed that I was here to bring the divine feminine to the forefront
on this sacred land and to eventually be a catalyst to expand this idea. I began to see clearly the rationale for creating
change, in order to balance this lopsided mixed-up world. I felt guided here for this divine purpose…”
After acquiring the property, she immediately began to create many stained glass windows and enamel pieces and to upgrade
the buildings and the features on the grounds. She bought Egyptian themed architectural plasters, created the Isis Chapel,
and brought in both ancient Egyptian themed and antique furniture for the buildings throughout the property. Every room
in the lodge is dedicated to a different Goddess of ancient Egypt, and decorated with items that reflect each Goddess's attributes
and beauty. The swimming pool was cleared and rebuilt, the swan pond was repaired, a jacuzzi was added, the rooms were refurbished,
all of this has taken many years. During this time Loreon was able to purchase additional properties and a few buildings,
the land of Isis Oasis now comprises ten acres.

Today Loreon has realized her original dreams for the property. But she has new plans, new ideas inspired by her patroness
deity. Loreon writes: “The Goddess has her own time, but as Lord Strathloch said, you must be receptive and be willing
to meet her halfway. We have witnessed the way in which manifestation of dreams happens. We are planning to maintain this
spiritual space, creating a kind of separate world that is in some way a replica of what the ancient Egyptians had strived
for and maintained during good times in their long history. Isis Oasis is destined to continue as a living memorial attesting
to the fact that there really is a Goddess. The Goddess Isis is the embodiment of all Goddesses and encompasses them within
her extended wings. We are here to keep her magical name alive, for it is imperative that she should never be forgotten.”
